Y2K Family Enrichment Center (For Court Services Payment Options, Please See Below)

According to Virginia Code Section 16.1-278.15 and 20-103, after July 1, 2001, all parents involved in contested child custody or visitation cases must attend a parenting class or seminar.

Y2K Academy Family Enrichment Center (Y2KAFEC) is an approved provider of mandatory parent education seminars.

Co-Parenting:  Two Parents, Two Homes, teaches parents how to be effective in parenting from separate residences.

VA Code Section 16.1-278.15  "The fee charged a party for participation in such program shall be based on the party's ability to pay; however, no fee in excess of $50 may be charged."

Tuition:  $50 per person

 What you will learn …

  • Information about recognizing and responding to the impact of parental separation and conflict on children of all ages.
  •  Strategies for reducing conflict and improving communication.
  • Explanations of what children need from parents and what they don’t need.
  • In-depth discussion of the most problematic aspects of co-parenting:  discipline, different parenting styles, and parent/child communication.
  • Detailed information on ways parents can keep their children out of the middle of their conflict.
  • Examples and discussion of parenting skills to enable co-parents to create strong, healthy families.

 

Y2KA Family Enrichment Center focuses on strengthening families in transition.  

 We focus on the positive.

Our classes do not offer:

Judgment of a participant’s parenting skills.

All parents can gain greater insight and skills from the information shared in our class.

Divorce education.

Many of the parents who attend our class have never been married.

 Legal Information.

Our handbook contains a section on legal information, and instructors discuss alternatives to litigation, but the emphasis is on co-parenting and the skills and information that are needed, especially during times of stress and transition.

Who teaches our class

Instructors are trained professionals in the fields of parenting education, responsible fatherhood, positive youth development, Biblical family counseling, human services or education.

 

**Optional Co-Parenting Plans for Contested Court Cases**

As an added, optional service to our clients, Dr. Johnson consults with non-custodial or custodial parents to develop a detailed co-parenting plan which outlines all facets of custody and visitation issues which may later be submitted for inclusion in your court order. Topics covered in the plan include:
